goal: play this festival one day
hey all it’s sam. i haven’t posted anything in like years on this blog because i’ve been busy working on a handful of projects (including at least one full length album thats been in the works for over a year) i dont wanna just post stuff here i dont deem worth keeping for a record, but i dont end up with a lot of demos either usually cause so much of my writing process is at this point tied up in recording too. i wanted to post a song though that i do have a true ‘demo’ of i guess since i dont know if it will be part of any album or what to do with the real recording. right now i just have this reel to reel demo with live guitar and vocals that warren helped me record while i’ve been staying at his place in bk. i dont really have a title for it yet and iv’e been calling it ‘urgency’ and it parallels a song on the orchid tapes compilation he’s releasing soon. it’s an important song to me but i’ve been at a loss for a while what to do with it and while i try and figure it out i’d like to share this live version.
you can feel its bloom
in a car at night in june
or on a roof
feel wind blow through
dark spots appear where things once were clear
if the world doesn’t start being good to us soon
i swear i might disappear
but why should the world be good to me?
have i ever been good to the world
i feel some urgency
pressing hard on me
to tell everyone
sometimes love’s not enough

so exciting to have a new song on vinyl, especially with such amazing company. some very key friends on here that have inspired and encouraged me immeasurably. this compilation is so beautiful; this community is so beautiful. can’t wait to see it translated into this physical form.
This is two weekends away oh my god oh my god.
Nina Mashurova wrote a piece (“Making Safer Spaces”) about our conversation at Silent Barn Public Meeting X: Safer Spaces for The Media’s 23rd issue. I really enjoy her conclusion at the end, which I’ve included above, courtesy of The Media.
You can also stream the entire audio recording of this discussion on Silent Barn’s YouTube channel.
Relatedly important: we coined the term “brahvant garde" (meaning "bro avant garde") which I foresee being helpful in the forever future.
Thanks to Rachel Levy for snapping the photo above!

Yohuna - Creep Date
So many talented women on this mix and in this scene. Get this single on the Clubhouse Spit cassette.
Our vinyl compilation Boring Ecstasy comes out in 8 days (presale starts on Saturday) and we couldn’t be more excited. To see everything come together the way it has after all the months of planning that have gone into this amazing record has been truly incredible.
For those interested in buying a physical copy; we’ll be pressing 150 coke bottle green and 150 electric blue LPs, and each copy will come with a poster print of the album artwork and a 4x6 photo print taken by either us or one of the artists on the compilation (we’re gonna be passing around some disposable cameras) We’ll also be spraying each jacket with a tiny amount of a custom scent made specifically to accompany this release.
Thanks everyone xo
